Cameron Wighton ... Music29 July - 22 August 2003
My participation has been with Jacinta Foale, as mentoree, during 20 contact classes, two performances at Old Timers, three demonstrations for Tangentyere at Brown Street as well as participation with the dance facilitators. Voice, Body Percussion and the Marimba were the vehicles Jacinta used to promote a creative experience. Lyrics, inflection, emphasis harmony, pulse, co-ordination, developed from places available to most people. Body Percussion uses the patterns created by the claps, thuds, pops, brushes, stomps and movement of feet and hands making contact with one's own and other's bodies. Greg Sheehan is perhaps Australia's greatest exponent of this music and movement art form. Altogether, there have been over two hundred attendances with everyone participating to some extent with some connecting very favorably with the instruments. Some exceptional moments of improvised "Jams", steady percussion and arrangements for voice, drums and marimba have been played during the month. I have enjoyed immensely being a part of this process, and have gained valuable knowledge and experience in using the dynamics of music/sound when applied to the disability area.
